Vietnam tourism booms during the Lunar New Year of the Horse
ASIA DMC
Vietnam’s tourism sector recorded an outstanding Lunar New Year holiday performance in 2026. During the nine-day break from February 14 to 22, the country served an estimated 14 million visitors, which represented a 12% increase compared with the same period in 2025, according to the Viet Nam National Authority of Tourism.
Many destinations reported growth in both visitor volume and tourism revenue. The extended holiday created strong travel demand and gave travel businesses, hotels, restaurants, and transport providers more room to build attractive, experience-led offerings for domestic and inbound travelers.
Key destination highlights across Vietnam
Several cities stood out with record-setting results during Tet 2026:
- Da Nang led in international arrivals during the holiday period, with the city estimating over 500,000 international visitors out of 1.1 million total visitors in nine days.
- Ho Chi Minh City reported strong tourism growth, with 4.32 million visits, 170,000 international visitors (up 51.7% year on year), and tourism revenue that increased sharply versus 2025.
- Hue City welcomed over 523,000 visitors, a major increase from the previous year. International arrivals reached over 249,000, which was close to half of the total.
- Hanoi served around 1.34 million visitors and saw clear momentum in cultural depth and interactive experiences at attractions and heritage sites.
- Ninh Binh welcomed over 2.37 million visitors, with international arrivals exceeding 377,000. Trang An Landscape Complex also saw a strong rise compared with 2025.
- In the northern mountains, Lao Cai recorded 779,300 visitors, including 54,600 international arrivals.
These results highlight a clear direction for Vietnam tourism in 2026: stronger demand for culture-led travel, nature-driven escapes, and destinations that invest in programming, service quality, and distinctive experiences.
