Expanding Southeast Asia connectivity in 2026: New routes – new opportunities
ASIA DMC
Southeast Asia continues to strengthen its position as one of the most dynamic travel regions in the world. In Q1 2026, a series of newly launched air routes is improving connectivity between key destinations, making travel across the region more efficient and accessible.
These developments support not only tourism growth but also create new possibilities for multi-country itineraries, corporate travel, and incentive programs across Southeast Asia.
Below are several important connectivity updates that travel professionals should note when planning for 2026.
Phnom Penh – Yangon: A new direct link between Cambodia and Myanmar
Starting from March 20, 2026, Cambodia Airways has launched a new direct service between Phnom Penh and Yangon, marking the airline’s first connection to Myanmar.
The route will operate twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays using Airbus A319 aircraft, with a flight time of approximately 1 hour and 35 minutes. This new connection provides a more convenient travel option between two culturally rich destinations that previously required indirect routing.
Passengers departing from Phnom Penh will also experience the newly developed Techo International Airport, which is expected to become a key aviation hub in Cambodia.
This route opens up new opportunities for combining Cambodia and Myanmar within a single journey, particularly for travelers seeking deeper cultural experiences across emerging destinations.
Da Nang welcomes direct routes from Manila and Bali
Central Vietnam continues to strengthen its role as a regional gateway with the launch of two new international routes connecting Da Nang with Manila and Bali on March 20.
Both routes will operate four times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays using Airbus A320 aircraft. Notably, the Bali route marks the first direct connection between Bali and Da Nang, significantly reducing travel time between two of Southeast Asia’s most popular leisure destinations.
These new connections improve access to Da Nang from key Southeast Asian markets and support the city’s continued growth as a hub for leisure, MICE, and coastal travel.
With stronger regional links, travel programs can now more easily combine Vietnam with Indonesia and the Philippines, creating more diverse and flexible itineraries for international travelers.
Ho Chi Minh City – Phuket: Strengthening Vietnam–Thailand connectivity
From 2 April 2026, Vietnam Airlines will introduce a direct route between Ho Chi Minh City and Phuket, further enhancing connectivity between Vietnam and Thailand.
The service will operate five times per week using Airbus A321 aircraft, offering convenient schedules for both leisure and business travelers.
This new route responds to increasing demand for travel between the two destinations. It also supports broader cooperation in tourism and trade while providing passengers with more efficient travel options.
For travel planners, the connection between Ho Chi Minh City and Phuket creates new possibilities for combining urban, coastal, and island experiences within a single itinerary.
What this means for travel planning in 2026
With improved air connectivity across Southeast Asia, travel programs in 2026 can be designed with greater flexibility and efficiency. Shorter travel times and direct routes allow for smoother transitions between destinations and more balanced itineraries.
These developments are particularly valuable for:

- Corporate and incentive travel programs
- Golf and luxury travel itineraries
- Regional tours that combine culture, beach, and city experiences
With the right structure, these new routes allow travel partners to create journeys that feel both seamless and diverse.
